For many young people finishing high school or navigating tertiary education in New Zealand, the gap between academic theory and the daily realities of adult life can feel daunting. From budgeting and workplace problem-solving to ethical decision-making, the modern world demands resilience that standard textbooks rarely teach.
At the Ershad Julekha Foundation (EJ Foundation), our foundational mission is to facilitate the young generation to enhance their knowledge, life skills, and moral grounding. Through our signature Youth Life Skills Labs across Auckland, we bring together passionate educators, seasoned medical professionals, and experienced community leaders to provide practical, hands-on guidance.
The Three Core Pillars of the Lab Curriculum
Rather than passive classroom lectures, our interactive workshops are built around simulated real-life challenges. Participants work in small cohorts to navigate complex scenarios under the mentorship of senior professionals.
Practical Problem-Solving
Developing critical reasoning, resourcefulness under pressure, conflict resolution, and the agility to solve everyday life hurdles independently.
Financial Literacy
Mastering personal cash flow, understanding KiwiSaver and debt traps, evaluating financial contracts, and practicing ethical wealth stewardship.
Civic Responsibility
Instilling ethical character, empathy for underprivileged communities, and a lifelong commitment to volunteerism and public service.
Building Multi-Generational Bridges
One of the unique aspects of the EJ Foundation's approach is our multi-generational model. Founders Ershad Ali and Julekha Ershad have watched their own daughters flourish in the New Zealand medical healthcare profession. That experience revealed the transformative power of patient, intergenerational mentoring.
“Youth empowerment is not merely about career preparation; it is about building the character and self-reliance necessary to stand tall, support one's family, and uplift those who are struggling in our society.”
Real Feedback from Young Participants
The response from young attendees across Auckland has been overwhelmingly positive. Participants frequently highlight how the interactive format breaks down intimidating concepts into manageable, actionable habits.
“Before attending this lab, I felt completely overwhelmed by financial planning and entering the workforce,” shared Liam T., a 19-year-old Auckland university student. “The mentors didn't just lecture us; they walked us through actual scenarios, taught us how to budget, and challenged us to think about how we can give back to our community as we grow.”
100% Non-Profit Charitable Funding
As a registered charitable trust under Charities Services NZ (CC63864), the EJ Foundation ensures that 100% of donor funding goes directly into running workshops, sponsoring participant learning kits, and supporting underprivileged youth who otherwise could not afford enrichment programs.
With our strict non-distribution constraint, no trustee or director draws private dividends or salaries. Every dollar invested compounds into tangible community benefit under transparent statutory governance and an annual audit framework.
